FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Here, we’re pleased to answer some of the most often asked questions about semi permanent make up and makeup tattoos. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please do get in touch with our expert practitioners who will be more than happy to help.

What is semi permanent make up?
Also called cosmetic tattooing, semi permanent make up is a method of implanting skin safe pigments into the dermal layer of the skin, using specialist tools and techniques. The process is a lot gentler than standard tattooing, and the result is a finer, more elegant finish that perfectly replicates make up or, as with a semi permanent eyebrow, a hair by hair simulation.
Does it hurt?
The short answer is ‘yes and no’. If you’ve been used to having your eyebrows tweezed, then this process is no more painful than that. However, some clients find the eyebrow tweezing much more uncomfortable, therefore the comfort of the treatment will vary and will depend on your individual pain threshold. We use micro pigmentation needles that are designed to minimise discomfort and there are our medical doctors available who can prescribe a topical anaesthetic to numb the area to be treated.
How long will it take to heal?
Most people who ask this question are really wondering when they can return to work or to life as normal. The good news is that your normal activities can resume straight away. Some swelling and redness can occur for the first 24 – 48 hours, but after that there should be no visible healing to do, and all discomfort should have passed. As the area heals, the colour will lighten, and depending on the area treated you will see the finished result in around four to six weeks.

How long does it last?
Our semi permanent eyebrow, eyeliner and lip treatments are designed to last from two up to five years, with an average of three years longevity at the desired colour. Over time colour will gradually fade, and issues like sun exposure and genetics can sometimes speed up this process. We recommend a retouch every 12 to 18 months to keep your makeup looking perfect.
What happens during the procedure?
Before we start any treatment, we will conduct a full consultation with you regarding the look you are trying to achieve. We will discuss shape, colour and style, and will help you choose colours that will complement your natural beauty. On the day of your procedure, we will draw in your semi permanent eyebrow, eyeliner or lip liner in pencil, and will ensure you are completely happy with the shape before undertaking any further treatment. Once you are happy with the shape, design and colour, we will carefully implant the pigment as agreed. Most procedures take around two to three hours, with a further touch up at four to six weeks after treatment. To Ensure the highest quality of the treatment, each stage will be documented on the photographs.
Will I have an allergic reaction?
The pigments we use are deigned to be hypoallergenic, and can be a solution for many people who are unable to use standard cosmetics due to sensitive skin. However, we don’t take any chances, and always send out a skin patch test before treatment, which we ask you to apply at least 24 hours prior to treatment.
How much does an eyeliner / lip / eyebrow tattoo cost?
The cost of each treatment can vary depending on what, precisely, you want to have done. However, we believe we have struck a healthy balance between offering excellent value for money to you, and still being able to use the best practitioners, products and tools ourselves. We find that when you weigh up your eyeliner / lip / eyebrow tattoo cost against the cost of daily makeup application, in both time and money, you’re making a massive saving by opting for semi permanent makeup!
